- Goodwyn joined the Royal Engineers in August 1871 and played regualrly for his regiment including an FA Cup final appearance in 1872. He played in the early rounds of the FA Cup in 1873 before being posted to India in January 1874. He fell from his horse the day before his 24th birthday and died two days later from his injuries. It was the same day his Royal Engineers team-mates contested the 1874 Cup Final.
